The Salt Shaker by Merci Pink, a student based in Gothenburg, Sweden, looks too artistic to fulfill as casual and mundane a purpose as sprinkling salt on meals. Nevertheless, as the industrial designer has already shown with the Teapot Set, there is an emphasis on organic forms that gives each piece created a sculptural appeal.
In this case, however, the inspiration behind the Salt Shaker by Merci Pink is much more surreal. Inspired by gravitational effects, it appears to be floating in midair. Pink elaborates, "These two objects represent a frozen movement and reflect gravitation traces that occurs when one picks up the salt from the table cloth." It is made out of glazed porcelain and rough clay.
