Irish design studio O'Donnell + Tuomey has just competed the new brick-clad dance theater for Sadler's Well's, making it its fourth venue. Located in East London, it houses 550 seats in the auditorium and features six studios. This is the latest addition to the East Bank development at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The goal of the space was to feel archaic, rooted in the industrial heritage of the location.
The co-founder and director of O'Donnell + Tuomey, Sheila O'Donnell explained more on the design process, noting "Parts of the building are very blank because there are no windows where the auditorium is, so we worked with bricks to add a level of interest. We wanted to contrast the glass and metal architecture surrounding the theatre by creating a building that feels as if it has a pre-existing presence in Stratford."
