Mexico City-based brand Materia has released its latest furniture collection designed by Iranian designer and architect Saba Yazdjerdi. The design of the collection inspired her grandfather's passion for Pahlevani. Saba Yazdjerdi spoke about the collection, saying: "Through my research, I find stories that inspire and speak to what Iranian culture is. It is also a reclaiming of our identity that we've lost for so many years."
The furniture collection consists of a mirror; a bench; a seat; and a sculptural vase. Each furniture piece explores various traditional Iranian athletics systems. A standout item in the collection is the Sang-ru mirror. The word 'Sang' is derived from Farsi, a stone shield-shaped tool used to protect Pahlevan athletes during combat. The mirror is supposed to be hung on the wall and shaped like a combat shield. The furniture collection is available for purchase in different price ranges.
