'Henning Larsen Architects' is about to give a Danish hospital a contemporary makeover with a series of ring-shaped extensions. Although hospitals are rarely considered architectural marvels, this institution will soon feature a modern design that is both visually appealing and therapeutic.
The ring-shaped extensions are part of a plan to upgrade the Herlev Hospital near Copenhagen. The new design will consist of three circular buildings with varying diameters. These buildings will respectively serve as the hospital's emergency, pediatric and maternity departments. The ring-shaped design allows each building to feature indoor and outdoor spaces for the staff and patients to enjoy. The circular design also allows for expansive windows that provide beautiful views from the inner and outer rooms.
Although the circular buildings may seem unusual, this design maximizes indoor and outdoor space in a way that can be therapeutic for patients.
