The Respond Mechanical Coat Rack Aims to Provoke Thoughts

While many designers have decided to mask complicated functions and features beneath a minimalist facade, Berlin-based industrial designer Nicole Schindelholz has decided to embrace product complexities with her Respond Mechanical Coat Rack. Although traditional racks have never required much mechanics in the first place, it is interesting to see a non-complex item made complex.
Crafted out of wood, the Respond Mechanical Coat Rack moves when a piece of clothing is placed on it through an ingenious weight system. Schundekholz writes, "It is my aim to set people thinking, so that they really perceive the world with the help of their eyes and their hands." Overall, however, the use of natural woods left unpainted gives the Respond Mechanical Coat Rack a rather minimalist aesthetic that balances the look of its moving gears.
