Trader Joe's Pumpkin Trees are More Adorable Than They are Spooky
Katherine Pendrill — October 4, 2019 — Art & Design
If you're looking for Halloween decorations that will make you smile instead of scream, look no further than Trader Joe's new Pumpkin Tree.
Despite the name, Trader Joe's new Pumpkin Tree does not actually feature mini pumpkins. In reality, the tiny orange fruit hanging off the branches are a type of eggplant. The plant is known as Solanum integrifolium, or the Chinese Scarlet Eggplant, though it is often called a pumpkin tree due to the eggplant's resemblance to the festive fall gourd. The fruit on the plant can last anywhere from two to four weeks, so it's actually perfect for any seasonal Halloween display. The stems are also pre-cut, so all you need to do is place the plant in a festive vase of water to keep it fresh.
