These easily-assembled light shades are designed by Brent Wilson, the New Zealand-based designer behind Vanilla Design Store. I like the simple petal shapes and their origami/papercraft feel.
The shades are made out of white styrene and can be connected to any pendant light assembly, but be warned: You can only use compact fluorescent bulbs with these babies to avoid overheating.
Implications - Flowers have served as a symbol of femininity, fertility and good tidings for centuries, which holds true in today's society. It seems that familiar imagery and well-established symbolism never fades, as proven by this Organic Illumination piece. Particularly with today's eco-conscious consumer, the use of florals in pieces is well-received.
