Panasonic Malaysia has made a Herculean effort in marine conservation and environmental sustainability with their manmade reefs in Terengganu.
Many corporations within the tourism and hospitality field acknowledge that their products aid in the pollution and destruction of our planet's resources, and they donate millions of dollars to charities to help reverse these harmful effects. Few companies, however, get their proverbial hands dirty as Panasonic Malaysia has done.
Panasonic Malaysia teamed up with Coral Malaysia to construct artificial reefs. These manmade coral ecosystems help sustain the wide variety of marine organisms that call these reefs home. Tourism has increased the amount of sediment in these coral reefs, and coral polyps cannot attach to sediment. The manmade reefs, however, are constructed from PVC pipes, which are easy for the polyps to latch onto.
Moreover, Panasonic Malaysia has allied with Universiti Malaysia Terengganu and the Marina Park Terengganu to educate primary school students on the importance of conserving the environment and how conservation is achieved.
