The Osteoid by Deniz Karasahin, a product and industrial designer based in Paris, France, is a modern medical cast that does more than keep bones in place throughout the healing process. It even does more than its close cousin, the Cortex cast, which is 3D printed for a lightweight, odor-free and stylish alternative to traditional plaster casts. This model, however, comes with an attachable bone stimulator that uses ultrasound to promote the healing process. It can reportedly increase healing rate in non-union break by 80 percent.
The winner of this year's A'Design Award for 3D printed forms and products, the Osteoid by Deniz Karasahin is also chic with its cutout design. It is meant to be tailored made for each patient and can come in a myriad of different colors.
