Google launches a new Magritte tool, which is an open-source machine-learning tool. It is a technology that automatically blurs parts of images and videos once they appear on screen as a means to protect people's privacy. The blur effect is able to be applied to a series of objects, human faces, license plates, as well as tattoos specifically. Additionally, it helps with allowing developers to analyze data without revealing any specific personal information that is specific to an individual.
Google explains that “As we’ve said before, we believe that every internet user in the world deserves world-class privacy… We’re excited for new testing and feedback on our open-source PETs and look forward to releasing more updates in 2023 and beyond."
