Adding a little bit of humor to traditional looking oil pumps, these funny and somewhat ironically decorated pumpjacks give Texas pumps some style and a whole lot of flair.
Captured by Austin-based photographer Ben Sklar, this series of 'Nodding Donkeys' shows us the type of oil pumps you would see if you were cruising down Texan streets. The pumpjacks photographed are used to pull out the oil from the wells in Texas.
The well-known and super successful photographer decided to capture these decorated pumps because he feels they authentically capture a very Texas-like charm that can only be found in small, oil-happy towns. Using a 4×5 camera, Sklar drove around Luling -- a small town -- and started photographing these signature works of art that are popular in such towns.
