The designers at Utah-based backpack purveyor Gregory know a thing or two about some of the less savory realities of backpack travel, most notably the hassle and awkwardness of dealing with muddy shoes and dirty laundry, which is why they're offering a travel backpack that keeps stench-generating items away from the rest of your gear.
As its name suggests, the 'Border Traveler 30' is designed for travel first and foremost, with its 30-liter capacity offering plenty of room for minimalist long-term travelers as well as people on shorter trips, whilst also meeting carry-on travel size regulations.
When delving into the 'Border Traveler 30,' the first thing that becomes apparent is the prominent central zipper, which divides the pack into two easily identifiable areas. One of these comprises this pack's signature innovation, namely its ActiveShield compartment. This area is treated with Sweden-based chemical company Polygiene's Stays Fresh Technology, which uses biocide to actively fight odor-causing bacteria. Therefore, this surprisingly capacious compartment is ideal for separating footwear, worn socks and dirty laundry from the rest of your belongings. The compartment is easily washable and treatable with standard household cleaners, allowing it to be easily cleaned in between doing its dirty work. The rest of the pack's space is devoted to helping you comfortably carry more agreeable objects. Aside from the primary internal compartment, this pack also offers externally accessed padded sleeves for your laptop and a quick-access pocket that's ideal for smaller gadgets and knick-knack.
Aside from organizing your gear, the 'Border Traveler 30' also helps you stay comfortable on your adventures, with the 3D foam breathable backpanel ensuring that you won't need to throw sweaty tees into that ActiveShield compartment with undue frequency. Meanwhile, the airmesh-embedded shoulder harness and sternum strap help you achieve even distribution of weight.
If there's one aspect of life on the road that the glamorous Instagram accounts of jet-setting digital nomads and envy-inducing frequent travelers conveniently (and thankfully) leave out, it's the trail of dirty, sweaty and downright foul clothes and shoes that one has to haul along the way. Now, thanks to the Border Traveler 30, everybody can keep the more gritty, grimy and malodorous byproducts of travel out of sight and out of mind. As an added bonus, this backpack also exemplifies Gregory's commitment to sustainability, being built with recycled fabrics to forge an estimated 40 percent reduction in carbon footprint.
