The device works by registering the user's pulse and helps to keep them on track with their breathing by sending feedback in the form of small vibrations. This could work eliminate the occurrence of side pain when running to prevent the athlete from needing to push past the pain and instead work to prevent or eliminate it for more comfortable training.

The conceptual Nike+ Runaid is the design work of Sebastian Halin and features an ergonomic design that is intended to be held in the hand and secure with attached lanyard strap.
