This Art Class Gives Kids a Fun Way to Celebrate Mother's Day
Katherine Pendrill — May 6, 2016 — Art & Design
On Saturday, May 7th, New York's Children's Museum of the Arts (CMA) will host a Mother's Day crafting event for children and their parents.
The event is called 'Portraits of Our Mothers' and it takes place in the CMA's Fine Arts Studio. The event is inspired by 11 year-old Daila Melhem, whose portrait of her mother is featured in the museum's permanent collection. Drawing on Melhem's work, young artists can create their own portrait of a special woman in their life. Children can then move on to the Clay Bar, where they can bake a special pastry for mom. To complete the gift, children can put together colorful dot marker Mother's Day cards.
The Mother's Day crafting even gives children the opportunity to unleash their creativity by creating thoughtful handmade gifts for their special women in their lives.
