The 'MOOOD Dockstation' is a decorative iPod dock designed by Carlos Alves for Altec Lansing. The MOOOD Dockstation consists of a central docking unit and independent speakers. What makes this design different from other iDevice docks is that it is designed to also act as a mood-lighting system.
The MOOOD Dockstation can emit a soft, colorful light from both the docking station and speakers. The light emitted comes in several different colors, with yellow and blue being shown in the concept shots. The Alves MOOOD Dockstation could very well be the direction that iDevice docks are headed in. Most docks do the same things (play music wirelessly), so designers are going to have to start innovating in order to help their creations stand out. What better way to attract a new audience then by turning an iDevice dock in a functional mood light.
