This MIT video software can take 2D film and automatically turn it into far superior 3D film.
Working with the Qatar Computing Research Institute, the MIT video team developed a program that can take any two-dimensional footage and transform it into a three-dimensional video instantaneously. This means that sports events, concerts and even news could be broadcast live in three dimensions.
This will have massive applications for film that can be viewed through virtual reality headsets and 3D-capable television sets. Although these devices already exist and are fully functional, media outlets haven't caught up and there tends to be a lack of content that can be experienced in 3D. Once it's commercially offered, this MIT video software will completely solve that problem, as it will be able to turn any filmed content into 3D content!
