Metaphor: Refantazio is an upcoming role-playing game (RPG) from Atlus, the creators of the acclaimed Persona series. Scheduled for release on October 11, 2024, the game represents a new intellectual property for the company, diverging from its established franchises. Metaphor: Refantazio is developed by a team led by Katsura Hashino, who directed Persona 3, Persona 4, and Persona 5, with character design by Shigenori Soejima and music composed by Shoji Meguro. The game is set in a medieval fantasy world, a departure from the modern-day settings of the Persona games, and will be available on multiple platforms.
Metaphor: Refantazio adapts the turn-based, social simulation-driven RPG mechanics familiar to fans of the Persona series into its own unique medieval fantasy setting. Players will manage their time to build bonds with allies and increase their “virtues” outside of dungeon-crawling. The game will be released on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Windows, available through Steam and the Microsoft Store. Pricing for the Western standard edition is set at $69.99, with a Collector’s Edition priced at $149.99, which includes additional physical and digital bonuses. In Japan, the standard edition is priced at 9,878 yen, and the special “ATLUS Brand 35th Anniversary Edition” is available for 18,480 yen. Pre-orders come with bonus downloadable content, offering extra in-game benefits.
