Computing giant IBM and venerable photography technology company Fujifilm have combined forces and knowledge bases in order to go about creating a futuristic computer memory tape that is designed to be able to store a scarcely believable 50 terabytes of data.
This particular computer tape, which is created by Fujifilm for use in conjunction with IBM's TS 1170 drive, is officially rated to be able to demonstrate 50-terabyte capacity, although the fact of the matter is that the compressed version of the tape can triple that amount to 150 TB. By utilizing advances in the latest and greatest particle technology, this memory tape is able to boost the amount of memory per square inch of tape, with the end result being that the tape is
"The advanced technology in the IBM 3592 JF tape cartridge will enable customers to realize high densities, which facilitates storage cost optimization while maintaining performance and time to data," explained IBM's vice president of storage systems development Alistair Symon.
