Low-riding and reclined, the MEDICI Chair is a wooden seat that prides itself on quality of comfort as much as it does on aesthetics. Similar to the traditional Muskoka chair, the MEDICI Chair nevertheless modernizes it for the contemporary home. Foregoing the use of arms and adopting more straight lines, this seat has a masculine touch that is hard not to appreciate.
Conceived and created by United Kingdom-based designer Konstantin Grcic for Italian furniture manufacturer Mattiazzi, the MEDICI Chair was inspired by the material and the machinery used to fashion it. Grcic writes, "I liked the idea of working with planks. They signify the very beginning of the production process--a tree trunk that is cut into slices. I like the way in which a carpenter joins wood. It is immediate and direct."
