Mastodon is Simplifying its Sign-Up to Attract Users
Mastodon is a decentralized network where users are able to select from various services with each one independently operated. Currently, the platform allows users to choose from over 12,000 instances and the team is beginning to work around how overwhelming that may be for casual users. To combat that, the team is rolling out a new sign-up process that makes mastodon.social the default option.
New users are still able to choose but mastodon.social offers a more simple way to create an account. The team as Mastodon notes that the decentralization process is "at the forefront of [their] mission." and that the service will only draw in the "people who already care about decentralization then its ability to make decentralization mainstream becomes that much harder."
