Marble is renowned for its beauty in design but is a limited resource that requires extensive mining to be sourced, so the 'Marbled Salt' material has been created by Roxane Lahidji as an eco-friendly alternative.
The material consists of 95% sea salt which has been mixed with tree resin to allow for forming into a variety of products including the tables seen here. Coal powder is added to enhance the natural color variations and allow the designs to look like marble without the need for any mined resources.
The 'Marbled Salt' material has a sturdy design that could help to replace marble alternatives for a more eco-friendly option for the furniture market to utilize. The material is the winner of the 2019 Bolia Design Awards.
