The new Mapudungún speakers are handmade from organic materials including leather, wool, wood and clay -- they fuse ancestral pottery practices with high-quality wireless audio technologies. The word Mapudungún directly translates to "the sound of the earth" in Mapuche, which is a language spoken in West-Central Argentina and South-Central Chile. The Mapudungún speakers are produced in limited quantities using traditional craft processes, natural materials and regional design aesthetics.
The speakers stand up for handmade quality, environmentally friendly efficiency, cultural identity, transparency and fair trade working conditions as well. The structure is a spherical shape that transmits sound in two ways -- it sways away from sharp resonances within the body and makes the focusing effect of high frequencies smooth. This vessel results in a more interactive behavior that exists between sound and space. The Mapudungún is made entirely from biodegradable materials and for each speaker sold, the team plans a native tree.
Since each piece is handmade, all designs are unique with their own small differences. The Mapudungún will be available as stereo speakers, a mono, or a 2.1 speaker system.
