Samsung Announced 'Maintenance Mode' to Keep Devices Secure

Samsung announced a new privacy-protecting feature titled 'Maintenance Mode.' This feature is designed to be used whenever a phone needs to be sent-in for repairs, whether it be to Samsung itself or to a third-party repair location. When Maintenance Mode is activated, the sensitive data on the mobile phone will be locked and only accessible to the phone's owner. This data includes personal photos, contact information, text messages, and more.
The purpose of this feature is to ensure that sensitive photos or private information is not compromised in the event that a phone's screen breaks and a repair shop is required. The Maintenance Mode feature began as a pilot test in Korea, where the feature was called 'Repair Mode.' Following the success of this test, the feature will begin rolling out to One UI 5, Samsung's latest operating system, in the coming months.
