ADA-Compliant E-Trikes

Lectric eBikes, the best-selling electric micro-mobility company, officially launched the Lectric XP Trike, the brand's first venture into the e-trike space. With accessibility in mind, Lectric took every consideration with the XP Trike, from its 13.8-inch standover height (determined by community feedback) to the fact that it is one of the only e-trikes on the market to ship fully assembled and ready to ride.

The XP Trike is designed to surmount barriers related to limited physical mobility, difficulty balancing, and age-related difficulties, as the e-trike's foldable frame is stable and reliable for riders of varying heights, weights, and ranges of mobility. This frame, combined with the low standover height and tire size, earned the XP Trike full ADA compliance under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Aside from its design, though, the programming for the XP Trike has also been upgraded for accessibility, with the new program controlling the levels of pedal assistance by amperage instead of by speed limits.

This new platform results in smoother handling when switching between levels of pedal assist. The change between each tier is less jarring than when the controller is governed by speed since speed control ramps up the motor quickly to try and attain the stated speed value. In contrast, amperage is a more linear, predictable increase in pedal assistance.

For customers who want to access more of the bike's sizeable power, though, the bike can be switched to an advanced mode where the PAS values can be intricately customized in terms of amperage, speed, torque, and more. Additionally, it is important to note that, while the bike features varying PAS levels, the XP Trike only runs on a single-speed drivetrain, which simplifies the riding experience further while reducing the range of potential issues that can occur while riding, resulting in less required maintenance.

Levi Conlow, the co-founder and CEO of Lectric eBikes, stated: "Every day, 10,000 people in this country turn 65," continuing on to outline the importance of accessibility in achieving widespread adoption of electric transportation, stating: This bike is accessible to everyone, even those with varying levels of physical ability and balance. It was important for us to create a quality product so everyone can join in the fun of riding!"

In terms of the core performance of the XP Trike, it includes a rear hub motor that peaks at an output of 1,092 W. This motor is placed in between the two rear wheels for balance, but also to circumvent some performance issues associated with rear hub motors. This motor is powered by a 14-amp, 48-volt battery, which results in a top speed of 14 miles per hour and a range of roughly 50 miles per charge. On top of this, even when carrying a payload, the XP Trike can easily surmount 20-degree incline hills.

Continuing the safety and accessibility of the bike, Lectric equipped the XP Trike with 180mm hydraulic brakes to ensure that riding back down the same 20-degree hill is just as safe as riding up it. These are not the only breaks, though, as the bike has two additional parking brakes for enhanced reliability.

In conclusion, the E-Trike from Lectric eBikes is a high-performance, accessibility-focused electric tricycle loaded with features that improve its safety, stability, and performance across the board. This is one of the highest-specced electric trikes on the market, and it comes in at an MSRP of only $1,499 USD, significantly lower than many of its competitors, effectively setting a new standard in the electric tricycle space.
