German design studio Demo Working Group has designed the Kier apartment in Colgne to create an open-plan space at the interiors. It is named after its address as it is located on Kierberger Straße. The project started by removing all of the non-structural walls from the home first built in the 70s. Prior to the renovation, the wallpaper was covering the concrete shell and various dividing walls.
Partner at the studio, Matthias Hofmann shares with Dezeen, "We were interested in how these concrete structures can be transformed to enable new spatial options. The new opening between the living and the sleeping area redefines the circulation in the apartment." The team used raw concrete in the middle of the floor plan, leaving the only interior wall left.
