Artist Jacob Everett has a knack for penmanship, to say the least. Everett’s over-sized monochromatic celebrity portraits are realistic, detailed and beautifully drawn all with a ballpoint pen.
Jacob Everett’s technique is quite simple: he does small sets of pen swirls but never takes his pen off the page. The final drawing is essentially one massively continuous swirled line. Because Everett draws his portraits on such a large scale, from far away you can’t even notice the swirls at all highlighting the stunningly shaded black and white portrait. Using swirls allows Everett to be super precise with his shading technique. The wider the swirls the more white space is shown and the more concise the swirls are the darker the shading is. The detailed shading complements the amazing facial features of the celebrities. The Jay-Z portrait is my favorite, which one is yours?
