Architecture firm LOHA, also known as Lorcan O'Herlihy Architects has completed the design of the Isla Intersections. This is an affordable housing complex that is meant for those who are formerly homeless. The build is made up of stacked shipping containers and it rests on top of uniquely shaped design. With a triangular base near a highway, it posed as a challenge for the team to tackle.
The team explains the design concept: "The towers are intentionally scattered along the pie-shaped edge of the property, enclosing a sequence of small green spaces that provide surprising moments connecting the landscape to the private residences." It adds, "Isla aspires to build on [Stanford Avalon Community Garden's] legacy, harnessing the potential to be a part of a much larger living lung that can potentially wind its way through the city."
