Volvo will be offering cars with integrated LiDAR systems in 2020, which was made possible through the company’s partnership with Luminar. The two organizations have a history of working together since 2018. The partnership allows Volvo to sell new technologies in vehicles, and Luminar gets a way to put products on the market. Additionally, the companies are looking for more ways the LiDAR system can improve the driving experience.
The integrated LiDAR will be available to consumers as an add-on option, where the system will be added to the rooftop of the car. Vehicles with this system will provide entirely autonomous highway driving with a feature named Highway Pilot. The system is able to detect potential hazards using cameras, radar, and more.
