Patricia Urquiola introduces a look at the Insula sofa collection which is defined by its modular capabilities. It was presented during Milan Design Week this year and is a new iteration of the traditional floor sofas that are found in Arab Majlis. These are large rooms that function as a collective space to entertain guests or the local community.
The seating and space are often multifunctional and the studio designs the Insula to reflect that concept. The collection is meant to encourage socialization and it can be placed both indoors and outdoors. The sofas sit low and it is detailed with a smooth finish and chunky structures. The backrests have a rolled support which is meant to balance the visual balance.
