Grubhub announced that it will be removing fees for independent restaurants facing adverse effects due to the coronavirus. The company launched these efforts in collaboration with the mayors from Boston, Chicago, New York City, as well as San Francisco.
The Grubhub founder and CEO, Matt Maloney spoke about removing fees, "Independent restaurants are the lifeblood of our cities and feed our communities.” Maloney also stated that independent restaurants have been great partners for the foodservice, and the company will look to help them as needed.
This initiative will also be beneficial for Grubhub as independent restaurants fill over 80% of the orders on the food platform and ensuring these businesses remain open through the virus will help the company long term.
