The 'Ignorance Is Bliss' Project Explores Artistic Upcycling
Justin Lam — November 26, 2018 — Eco
Created by Lithuanian designer Agne Kucerenkaite, the 'Ignorance Is Bliss' project explores how valueless metal waste can be used to create colorful ceramic glazes. Developed while Kucerenkaite was studying at Design Academy Eindhoven, this unique ecological project is aimed at promoting a circular economy by turning industrial metal waste into powdered dyes. The metal used in the Ignorance Is Bliss project was gathered from various industrial facilities, including a soil remediation company, water purification and treatment plants, and an area of South Holland that was polluted by a zinc factory.
The upcycling nature of Ignorance Is Bliss is the key element of this project as it looks beyond simply creating gorgeous ceramics and instead focuses on the ways in which we can utilize perceived waste.
