The Hongqi L5 is a luxury sedan that recently made its first public appearance at the Beijing Auto Show, just days before a Chinese businessman purchased the first ever production model for around $800,000.
Hongqi—which means ‘red flag’ in Chinese—has been used to drive around government officials and dignitaries in China for many years. The Hongqi L5 appears to be styled after the Hongqi CA 770, one of the brand’s marquee models.
This luxury sedan weighs 6,950 pounds and is 18 feet long, 6.5 feet wide and 5 feet tall. It is equipped with a 6.0 litre V12 engine that produces 402 horsepower and 405 pounds-feet of torque. The engine-produced power is controlled by a six-speed automatic gearbox. This all-wheel-drive car has a minimalist and elegant interior complete with celadon jade door handles, hand-carved wooden inlays, a tablet center console and a high-tech Bose sound system.
