Gorilla Glass 4 is the latest version of the popular high-quality cover glass produced by American glass maker Corning. Smartphones these days are becoming increasingly slim and slippery, necessitating the use of glass that can shrug off the impact of being dropped. Gorilla Glass 4 does just that by taking the merits of previous iterations of Gorilla Glass to the next level.
Corning developed Gorilla Glass 4 after taking into account countless hours "analyzing cover glass that had broken in the field or laboratory."
The glass itself is manufactured using Corning's proprietary fusion draw process, which helps maintain slimness, durability and clarity without compromising on drop test performance.
When dropped onto concrete and asphalt-like surfaces from a height of one meter, Gorilla Glass 4 sheets survived 80% of the time. By contrast, the more commonly used soda-lime glass broke on almost every single drop.
