While it didn’t exactly come down the runway in full force in New York or Paris, denim pieces are backed by perennial style bible Vogue and are sure to make their mark all over the East and West Village (each worn with its own different flair, of course) once the weather finally permits.
We’re not talking your basic pair of jeans here, but new and unexpected pieces that will vamp up and strangely enough, update a wardrobe. My favorites include an overgrown and slouchy denim blazer that the Gap introduced in its Spring 2009 ready-to-wear as well as a Bycorpus strapless denim dress, a Rapscallion by Samantha Pleet denim romper and a Silence and Noise denim bodysuit.
Each can be worn subtly or as a statement all on its own. With such contemporary--not to mention financially accessible--designers jumping on board and giving their own spin to the centuries-old material, what’s not to love about denim this spring and summer?
