'Girlfriends' Interprets the Female Gaze

'Girlfriends' is a photography exhibit, currently on display at the NY Art Book Fair at MoMa PS1, that explores the female gaze.
The project is a collaboration between fashion and art photographers, all female, from all over the world. The impressive list of collaborators includes Valerie Phillips, Monika Mogi, Yukari Shinomaya, Dana Boulos, Dafy Hagai and Maya Fuhr. Though the photographers connected online, the project features a mixture of both print and online work.
The way each photographer negotiates and represents the female gaze is unique to her and her cultural background. However, there are a thread of commonalities between the work. Hagai explains, “It’s funny cause when you look at some of the work you can see we all have similar influences and references but we all translate those ideas into our own cultures."
