Scania and Ernst Express are Testing Solar Panel Trucks
Daniel Johnson — October 14, 2020 — Autos
Scania and its partner, Ernst Express, are testing solar panels on its trucks to assess if it could save on fuel costs. Trucks have a much larger surface area when compared to other solar cars, which may make drastically decrease fuel-related costs.
Scania and Ernst Express will put 1,507 square feet of solar panels on one truck. The two organizations believe that over the course of a year the panels could generate 14,00 kWh. This level of power could reduce fuel costs by 5-10% in colder climates like Sweeden. In warmer climates savings could be even higher.
Road tests have not been scheduled yet, however, they will be done with cooperation from the Swedish government to assess feasibility.
