At first glance, the Equator Tower may look as though it were under construction or simply being restored to its former glory. Considering that it hasn't even been built yet, the latter is clearly ludicrous. But the covering it is surrounded with suggests otherwise. The unorthodox design of the Equator Tower is what warrants such a strange skin.
Essentially, the Equator Tower is enclosed in a retractable sun shade. Acting like a pair of sunglasses, it "serves as protection from the sun’s glare without sacrificing the stunning views of the city," as reported by Psfk. The 80-storey skyscraper is set to be built in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, a city close to the equator, hence its name. It is made out of PTFE-coated glass fiber-reinforced fabric.
