This emoji map ranks states based on their emoji usage. Click on any state in the emoji map and the interactive site will open a pop-up with the state's top used emoji. Some of them are fairly predictable -- California, for example, ranks high for sushi and sunsets, while Hawaiians love the rainbow and surfing emoji. The Statue of Liberty icon is unsurprisingly most used in New York. Some of them are more unexpected -- who would have guessed that Missouri uses the police emoji all the time? And some are just inexplicable, like Vermont's extremely frequent use of the poop emoji and the fact that Montana uses the women's bathroom sign more than any other state.
The emoji map was made by SwiftKey, a predictive platform for smartphone keyboards. The site also offers a personalized emoji report. New SwiftKey app users receive stats on their most-used emoji and their signature emoji (the emoji they use more than all their other friends). They can also find out their "State of Emoji" -- which state's emoji usage most closely matches their own.
