The 'Greenster' is an all-electric green car married to a classic-looking roadster design. It is the result of a collaboration between RUF Automobile and Siemens Corporate Technology.
The Greenster concept car was displayed at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The street version will have a dual-motor system and will recharge in less than an hour when plugged into a 400V outlet.
A small production run is set to be produced in 2010.
Implications - Unable to maintain gas-guzzling muscle cars in the current financial environment, drivers are keeping their eyes open for eco-friendly vehicles that capture the aesthetic appeal of older, more powerful American cars. Although the first electric cars sported bizarrely futuristic looks, the motor vehicle industry has collectively returned to more traditional designs, while revamping everything under the hood.
