The eBay Birthday Cake Floated Down the River Thames

A celebration of two decades of existence, a two-tier eBay birthday cake was recently sent down the River Thames in London. A dramatic move from the online retail marketplace, the publicity stunt was easily recognizable thanks to 20 candles that light up at night. The eBay birthday cake is six-meters high, making it taller than the city's iconic double-decker buses.

The eye-catching eBay birthday cake began its journey at Stratford and traveled along the Thames to Battersea, where it turned around and headed back up. The playful journey of the cake ended dramatically at 8PM that evening between Waterloo and Blackfriars Bridge.

Similarly, peer-to-peer accommodations website Airbnb sent a floating house down the Thames earlier this year. Other brands to stage high stakes campaigns along the Thames recently include Land Rover, Under Armour and the action movie series Sharknado.
