Drift by Valentin Loellmann, a furniture designer based in Maastricht, the Netherlands, is a hanging light fixture that resembles a long wooden boat. With overlapping planks of raw oak and bangkirai wood, the design is serene and elegant. It almost appears as though it is floating in a body of water, albeit upside down.
Unlike the Dutch designer's past work, Drift by Valentin Loellmann is quite simple and inanimate. Known for his quirky, character-filled work, Loellmann explores an aesthetic that is more in line with modern minimalism. Nevertheless, as he states on his website, "In the act of artistic creation, I like to think of my pieces as 'being born’. and naturally, every child is different. this difference accounts for the variety of processes and forms in which manifold materials might join together."
