Microsoft is Collaborating with the Department of Energy
Daniel Johnson — August 20, 2020 — Tech
Microsoft is collaborating with the Department of Energy in order to create AI-powered disaster response tools, as part of a new group named the 'First Five Consortium.' The AI disaster response tools will be able to prevent instances of natural disasters, as well as manage the situation if one should occur. Predictive technology can anticipate wildfires, before they occur, as well as evaluate damages, and coordinate search and rescue efforts. If a natural disaster can be predicted ahead of time, then planning can be done immediately to keep people safe.
Toni Townes-Whitley, the President of US Regulated Industries for Microsoft, spoke about the project, "Artificial intelligence enables us to address some of humanity's greatest challenges, and in this case, improve disaster resilience for populations around the world."
