Apple Music Has Created Its Digital Masters Catalog
Daniel Johnson — August 8, 2019 — Tech
Apple Music has created the Digitial Masters catalog, which organizes all of its master for iTunes songs into one large section on the platform. Through the Digital Masters catalog, users will have a streamlined process to find music that has been optimized to better fit the platform.
A lot of music that is being created is tailored specifically for iTunes, as that is where many consumers go to engage with new music. Approximately 75% of US top 100 songs are mastered for iTunes, and about 71% of the top songs globally are mastered for iTunes. This benefits Apple Music as it provides an automatically popular positon amongst music streaming services. If most music being made is tailored for the platform, that could draw significant interest amongst consumers to change to the platform that music is being created for.
