Desai Chia Architecture, an American studio, recently designed the new Manhattan headquarters for digital media company Quartz. The design is meant to reflect the ethos of the company, with a DIY aesthectic that's a reference to the friendly, approachable style that Quartz goes for in its own content.
The foyer of the office is outfitted with black wood walls and exposed pinewood struts, like a theater or movie set. However, those pine slats have some function, as they provide benches and chairs for employees to make use of that open area. Further, the shelves along the wall of the kitchen area are also designed with pine, blending the aesthetic with the functional.
Desai Chia designed the office space to have multiple points of entry and egress, making it a freer area for creativity.
