Dell's Concept Luna Laptop has Received Design Improvements
Colin Smith — December 15, 2022 — Art & Design
Dell has released a prototype laptop called Concept Luna, which it says can be easily disassembled without the use of any tools. The laptop uses a "key" to remove a bar at the top of the keyboard, after which the screen, keyboard, battery and fan can be easily removed in a few seconds.
The company has also created a robot arm that can disassemble the laptop for repair or recycling, using intelligent telemetry to assess the health of each component. Dell aims to be able to reuse or recycle one product for every product sold by 2030.
Page Motes, the head of Global Sustainability at Dell, stated: “Parts of how we created Luna could cascade into products sooner, while we’re working through bigger implications. We don’t want perfection to be the enemy of done.” Showing that, while it currently has no plans to bring the Concept Luna to market, the company will definitely use the information it has gained on future product designs, ensuring repairability, recyclability, and sustainability for the brand going forward.
