Lose yourself in this enchanting photo series by the talented Claire Oring, which takes witchcraft and wizardry to whole new levels of reality. In history, the practice of witchraft was forbidden and heavily criticized as deviant. This fashion shoot florified and glamorizes the practice, showing that the practice can be beautiful.
“In Conjure I wanted to represent young heroines secretly practicing witchcraft in a time when it was forbidden,” Claire explains before adding: “- Nature is an important ingredient in the series. All of the settings are characters, as are earth, air, wind, and fire.”
The 22-year old Los Angeles artist and photographer has worked for commercial clients such as Free People and Urban Outfitters, but her real passion lies in mysticism and marrying the worlds of fantasy and reality. Conjure was inspired by Arthur Miller’s play the Crucible.
