Chinese Rehab Centers May Soon Use VR to Gauge Patient Progress
Justin Lam — August 1, 2018 — Tech
In an effort to better improve Chinese rehab centers a new pilot program has been introduced in Shanghai that uses VR to understand the cravings of a recovering addict. The system works by flashing images through a VR headset and measuring the bodily responses to the images of certain banned substances. Responses measured by the system include eye movement, body heat and heart rate. The system was developed on the idea that it would give a definitive result as to a patient's progress in rehab.
The VR system is already being implemented at several Chinese rehab centers in Shanghai with the hope that they will expand to more facilities in the near future. The system will be shown at a convention in April with the results being proof that the VR system can be introduced in countries around the world.
