A team of designers led by Swiss architect Pierre Jeanneret created the iconic Chandigarh Chair which brings attention to the erasure of local designers when it comes to the development of mid-century modern designs. The term Chandigarh Chair nods to the range of teak chairs that are supported by woven cane seats and backed designed to meet the administrative and housing buildings in Chandigarh, India, hence the name.
The furniture is often referred to as the Easy Chair -- it is the task chair that is made up of legs, arms, and a back attached to the seat. There have since been various versions created and it is made to be both utilitarian and functional with local wood and techniques.
