Black and white: these were clearly the prevailing choices of the ladies at the 81st Annual Academy Awards 2009, although white truly made its statement both in number and in style. Glowing on the red carpet of the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, California, the bright gowns hinted from fairy tale fascinations to hazy wedding wishes.
Sarah Jessica Parker surrounded her delicate figure with veils of white Dior couture, similar to Penelope Cruz’s fair Pierre Balmain with lacy details. The long white tails of the layered Versace worn by Marisa Tomei as well as the Taraji Henson modular-like creation of Roberto Cavalli, definitely swept the floors of the luminous theatre; fortunately it is the upper side of the dragged-around cloths that was visible.
In a more linear form, Nancy O’Dell was captured in a one-shoulder gown by Pamela Rolland, ancient-Greek style, while the silky Prada worn by Jessica Biel showed off a plush bow-like detail in front but hazardous tight fit at the bottom. Finally, Jennifer Aniston and Anne Hathaway radiated pure elegance in their glowing body-hugging gowns by Valentino and Armani respectively
Although hard to pull, the virgin color lightened up both the mood and the photos, making the stars truly shine; for the rest of the ladies, there is but one, hopefully, opportunity to shine in a bridal dress.
