The Black Pavilion is a demountable structure defined by wood clads painted in black and it is designed by architecture studio Buero Wagner. The tent-like structure is installed in Rome on the grounds of Villa Massimo, which is also where the German Academy is. The space can function in a multitude of ways including a bar or an exhibition space for artists. It is made from structural wood as the frames and is demountable to be portable.
The studio explains that "For exhibitions, objects are placed on wooden pedestals between the support structure and illuminated through small circular openings in the roof surfaces. With the roof surfaces folded out, a table-like area is created that can be used as a bar for cooking and eating, [and] in order to use the pavilion for larger events the sides can be placed with increased distance between each other."
